UC139 is a three-metre-long console designed by Iñigo Calleja for a commission in which functionality was paramount, while leaving room for a more unconventional aesthetic approach.

The design is a playful creation by Iñigo, with six sculptural legs that pay tribute to Wendell Castle, a key figure in furniture design and making whose affinity for voluminous, playful geometries Iñigo greatly admires.

The functional upper section is a robust, box-like structure with four doors and a few rounded details. It is made from reclaimed chestnut planks from Béjar, distinguished by their exceptionally light tone.

The base takes a different approach. Its sculptural geometry diverges completely from the form of the upper section, and its dark finish accentuates this contrast.

In a composition, elements do not always need to blend seamlessly. Sometimes it is the discordance between them, the almost tangential way they meet, that creates the conditions for something different and beautiful.
