Some designs have a way of connecting with people that is difficult to explain, and UC136 is one of them. This table design has been adapted to several configurations over time: dining table, console table, wine table and coffee table. Across these different formats, two elements remain at the heart of its appeal.
The first is the reclaimed chestnut wood from Béjar, a material that has appeared in several of our creations. Its pale, almost faded tone reflects the character of the wood grown at the altitude of the Sierra de Béjar, while its clearly defined grain gives the surface a distinctive presence. There is something quietly compelling about this combination of lightness and texture, and we find it difficult to resist.
The second is the design of the legs. Their organic, feminine geometry first appeared in our UC27 table, designed four years ago by Bea Silveira, Serena Fortín and Iñigo Calleja, drawing inspiration from a piece by American sculptor Casey McCafferty. It is a shape that seems to strike a particular chord: expressive without being loud, distinctive without trying too hard. Somehow, it gets the balance right and appeals to people across different tastes. If only we knew the secret to creating more designs with that same kind of appeal.
There is also a practical decision behind the table's appearance. The structure has no rails or crossbars; instead, the legs attach directly to a sufficiently thick tabletop, reinforced with steel plates to prevent sagging. Removing these connecting elements leaves the design visually lighter and makes the table easier to transport. The result brings together expressive geometry, the character of reclaimed wood and a straightforward construction in which every element has a clear purpose.
