Bookcases are often designed around straight lines and rectangular forms, with functionality taking precedence over sculptural expression. With UC180, Iñigo Calleja explores a different approach, bringing organic forms and a more playful character to a piece of furniture that is as much a part of an architectural space as it is a practical necessity.
Made from reclaimed walnut wood from Béjar and AMBER’s own mineral coating incorporating wood shavings, the design combines the warmth of walnut with a creamy white finish that creates a distinctive contrast between materials and surfaces.
Five levels of shelving provide generous storage, while a rotating dividers introduce an informal element to the composition. More than a visual detail, they also serve as a support and a way to organise the objects displayed on the shelves.
Built to withstand the weight of heavy encyclopaedias as easily as carefully curated objects, UC180 brings together sculptural character, everyday functionality and robust construction.
The design can be adapted to different dimensions, heights and material combinations, allowing it to respond to the needs of each project.
