Two Guipuzcoan designers named Iñigo. Same hometown, same football team, same hands-on relationship with materials. They had talked about collaborating for years. Marbella Design 2023 was the occasion.

The idea came over a long lunch they cooked themselves because they are Basque, and that matters. Two coffees, a handful of sheets of paper, and an afternoon of conversation that only happens between people who share too many things to need much explanation.

Iñigo Manterola had just published the new Real Sociedad shirt traditional stripes replaced by twisted steel bars. A design that marked an era. AMBER was deep into sculpting ancient structural beams. The overlap was obvious.

They drew it together. Each made his part. Then they brought it back together.

The lower body is a solid mass of shaped ancient timber. The backrest is Manterola's curved steel with two additional bars extending outward from the side and the front. Leaning back into steel bars was never going to be comfortable. And yet the generous curves of everything around them make it impossible not to want to try.

A divan that insists on being a sculpture. A sculpture that insists on being used. That is where the beauty of this piece lives.
