His first job out of telecoms engineering school was in BMW's audio division in Germany — surrounded by anechoic chambers, frequency analysers, and the kind of obsessive attention to sound quality that never quite leaves you. Thirty years later, that same obsession found a different form.

Designed by Iñigo Calleja, a pair of three-way, 140W speakers — the hardware of serious listening — mounted in a hand-carved structure of American and Spanish oak. The wood dictates nothing about the sound. It dictates everything about how the object feels in a room: the weight of it, the grain, the sense that something was made rather than assembled.

For anyone who grew up with the warm, imperfect glow of vintage electronics — old televisions, valve amplifiers, the particular aesthetic of things built to last — this piece will be immediately familiar. For everyone else, it is simply a beautiful object that happens to fill a room with sound.
