Some projects begin with a question rather than a brief. This one began with a new member joining the AMBER workshop — an ex-surfboard shaper who had run his own board brand and held himself to a standard of finish that was entirely his own. The idea of merging his world with AMBER's material language was irresistible. UC94 was the only way to find out if it worked.
A fish — the board shape built for soft, playful summer waves, shorter and wider than a performance board, designed for the kind of surfing that looks effortless and isn't. Entirely AMBER in its DNA: something that looks like it shouldn't work and does, where passion and rigorous construction thinking arrive at the same place.
The material: a two-hundred-year-old beam, with its original traces of paint, plaster and nails still intact, encapsulated in resin. The finish was polished to a transparency that made the ancient wood visible as if behind perfect glass — every grain, every mark, every decade of its previous life preserved and legible.
UC94 was made for AMBER's participation in Marbella Design 2024. It caused an impact. It was acquired by the most relevant interior design studio in the city.
That was enough to know the question had been answered. UC126 is what came next.
