Aponiente, the restaurant led by Ángel León, is housed in an old tidal mill in the heart of the Cádiz marshlands. Its cuisine is driven by ongoing research into the resources of its surroundings, transforming overlooked or unconventional ingredients into a unique gastronomic experience.

Following UC145, created for El Secadero, these two new tables form part of the second phase of AMBER’s work at Aponiente. Designed by Iñigo Calleja and crafted in our workshop, each table measures five metres long and is conceived as a sculptural presence for the restaurant’s outdoor setting.

The design combines two bases formed by simple, playful geometric blocks with a large tabletop featuring an elliptical silhouette.

The geometry of the bases and the curved cut of the tabletop are intended to balance the visual weight of pieces built from substantial volumes and raw-looking materials.

The wood comes from beams reclaimed from 2 century old buildings in the historic city of Cádiz. Its surface has been charred to achieve a black finish, contrasting with the oxidised orange of the Corten steel used in the bases. Both materials retain the marks and textures that speak to their nature and history.

The contrast between black and rust takes on a particular character in the light of sunset over the Cádiz marshlands, allowing the tables to sit within Aponiente’s landscape while retaining their sculptural presence.
